Questions
How it works
How does quokli work?
You link your bank account, then set a rule and an amount. Each time a rule kicks in, that amount moves from your bank account into your own investment account. Three kinds of rules: screen time, purchases (round-ups and taxes), and habits.
How does the screen time rule work?
Pick the apps that eat your day, a daily limit and an amount for extra time. Past the limit, those apps lock. The lock uses your phone’s own screen-time controls, which you switch on for quokli. Need 15 more minutes on one? Open quokli, pick the app, and the amount you set, say $2, is invested. The minutes start right then.
How do round-ups and taxes work?
You buy a $3.60 coffee. quokli rounds it to $4, and the $0.40 is invested. A tax is for the things you want less of: put a $10 tax on cigarettes, and every pack invests another $10. Set the tax to the price of the pack if you like, and set as many tax rules as you want.
How do habit rules work?
Pick a habit, like today’s run, and put an amount on it, say $5. Do it and nothing happens. Miss it and the $5 is invested, so a slip still moves you forward.
Why does this work?
Money on the line is the oldest way to change a habit. quokli keeps the money yours: a slip becomes an investment, and a day you hold the line costs nothing.
Can I change or stop a rule?
Yes. Making a rule stricter takes effect right away. Making it easier takes effect after a short hold, so a weak moment cannot rewrite it.
When does the money actually move?
Small amounts are collected first and invested together once they reach a set amount.
What if there isn’t enough money in my account?
Then nothing moves. quokli tries to take the amount, it doesn’t go through, and that’s it.
Your money
Where does the money come from?
The bank account you link. quokli moves only the amounts your rules set, from that account into your own investment account.
Where does my money go?
Into your own investment account. By default it buys one broad index fund, a single fund that owns a slice of thousands of companies.
Can I take it out?
Yes. Move it back to your bank account any time. Selling takes a few days to settle, like any investment account.
The fine print
Can it lose value?
Yes. The fund moves with the market, down as well as up.
